Dr. Phillip Compeau Appointed Assistant Department Head for Education

Dr. Phillip Compeau has been appointed as the Assistant Department Head for Education in Computational Biology at CMU.

In addition to his role as an Assistant Teaching Professor, Dr. Compeau will be overseeing the new Computational Biology Undergraduate Program within the School of Computer Science, as well as serving as an assistant director of the MSCB (Master of Science in Computational Biology) program.

Dr. Compeau is a co-founder of Rosalind (http://rosalind.info), a platform for learning bioinformatics and programming through problem solving, and serves as an instructor for the Bioinformatics Specialization on Coursera  (https://www.coursera.org/specializations/bioinformatics ).  His textbook with Pavel Pevzner, Bioinformatics Algorithms: An Active Learning Approach, has been adopted by 50 institutions worldwide since its publication in 2014.
