Computational Biology Department opens search for new Department Head
After founding and leading the computational biology department (CBD) at CMU for 10 years, Professor Robert F. (Bob) Murphy has decided to step down as Head and return to the faculty. Under Bob’s leadership, CBD established itself as a leader in both research and education. It has consistently been the top contributor to the major computational biology conferences, it continues to play major roles in several national and international centers, its faculty have many leadership positions in editorial, society and peer review capacities, and its members have won several prestigious awards. On the education front, the department’s undergraduate, M.S. and Ph.D. programs have seen large increases in applications over the last few years.
We are seeking an energetic and visionary leader for the position of Full Professor and Head of the Department. Carnegie Mellon is consistently ranked first in computational biology and bioinformatics by csrankings.org and the new department head will have a significant opportunity to continue our growth in this important area.
